Single and Multiple Embryo TransfersIVF or In Vitro Fertilization is one of the most popular methods today where embryos are transferred in the uterus of a woman. This helps in pregnancy but there are a lot of other factors that need to be considered here. The best IVF Center in India shall be considered by a couple for getting their treatment done. In this article single and multiple embryo transfer shall be discussed that will help in understanding them better.

Single embryo transfer

In this process, a single embryo is transferred to the uterus of a woman from which one child can take birth. This prevents multiple births that can take place with the transfer of more than one embryo. Getting pregnant with more than one baby is often very risky for both the mother and the child. There are high probabilities that babies are not properly matured before birth and this is surely not a good sign.

There are many cases where multiple babies fail to survive in the mother’s womb simultaneously and they die within. The risks for a mother carrying more than two babies are also very high. She can develop certain harmful diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. This is why single embryo transfer can be considered safer for the mother and the child.

It is advised that women who have not yet attained the age of 35 can go for single embryo transfer. The success rate is very high below this age and the result takes place faster. However, they can also opt for multiple embryo transfer if they wish to give birth to more than one baby at a single time.

Multiple embryo transfer

When a couple opts for IVF treatment, they will have to undergo many IVF cycles. But for a couple who wants to witness the result faster, they choose multiple embryo transfer method. In this process, 2-3 embryos are transferred to the uterus of a woman and thus the chance of pregnancy increases to some extent.

Many people have the notion that transferring multiple embryos shall surely result in more than one pregnancy. But this fact is not always true as multiple embryo transfer increases the chances of pregnancies. There are also many cases when a woman should get transferred multiple embryos depending on her medical conditions.

Women who have crossed 35 years of age and have had previous IVF failures should opt for multiple embryo transfer. The power of their eggs gets reduced to a great extent and with single embryo transfer, there is very little chance of success. The probability of them getting pregnant with multiple babies is also very less in this case.

These are the most important factors about single and multiple embryo transfers that you should know before going for IVF treatment.
