PREMATURE OVARIAN FAILURE; CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT

Premature Ovarian Failure, also called Primary Ovarian Insufficiency is a condition or stage before age of 40, when ovaries stops functioning normally and don’t produce normal quantity of estrogen hormones and eggs that cause in the infertility issues in women. Most of the time, Premature Ovarian Failure confused with the condition of premature menopause, but both of the condition are different.

Women experiencing Premature Ovarian Failure may have the irregular menstrual cycle and might get pregnant. But in Premature menopause, women stop having periods and cannot become pregnant after the certain period of time.

Chromosomal disorder – Genetic defects might be one of the causes of primary ovarian insufficiency which include Mosaic Turner syndrome, in which a woman has only one normal X chromosome and second x chromosome either fragile or altered.

Toxins due to prior treatments – There are some treatments which include usage of radiation therapy. These therapies results in the toxins induced ovarian failure which damages genetic material in cells.

Treatment:-

Estrogen therapy – For Treatment of primary ovarian insufficiency, doctors mainly focus on the problems that are caused due to the lack of estrogen and hence doctors will recommend you Estrogen therapy to prevent osteoporosis. If you have your uterus, then doctor might recommend you estrogen with hormone progesterone which will protects the lining of your uterus due to precancerous changes that might occur due to usage of estrogen alone.

In vitro Fertilization Treatment – There is no proven treatment to restore fertility, but couple can still become parent using donor eggs through in vitro fertilization. If premature ovarian failure is the main cause disabling you becoming parents, then doctors will always recommend you other advanced treatment and IVF is one of them.
