Semen Bank/ Cryopreservation

Fertility Preservation Made Easy with Sperm Banking

Sperm that can be frozen is obtained from two sources: Ejaculation and fluid extraction from surgical procedure . The sperm thus obtained is generally frozen for a period of up to one year. The purpose of sperm cryopreservation is to help preserve the possibility of conception in the future.

What are the reasons to cryopreserve sperm?

Sperm can be preserved to due to following reasons:

  • Medical reasons:

Many a times, men are detected with medical reasons that necessitate cryopreservation of sperm to enhance chances of future conception. The medical reasons may include cancer diagnosis at an earlier stage, genetic damage, or conditions causing permanent sterlization.

  • Prior to sterilization:

For men who wish to undergo vasectomy but have the desire to keep the option to father children in future even after vasectomy can do the same with cryopreservation of sperm.

  • Occupational Reasons:

Those high risk occupations like military, deployment at war base, exposure to radiation, dangerous chemicals, etc., can benefit from sperm banking to ensure their chances of fathering their children in future. Many a times, due to occupational reasons, both partners remain parted from each other. Artificial insemination using sperm banking can help in such a scenario to help the couples conceive despite the distance between them.

  • Low Sperm Counts:

Good quality sperm can be frozen using ICSI or IVF. This helps to increase the likelihood of pregnancy.
